Some advice concerning the storage of wigs

In case you want your wig to look good for a long time, you will have to turn your attention to the proper storage of your wig. For this, just putting your wig into a corner of your wardrobe won’t do the job, as the hair might get tangled and dust will be drawn to the wig, making it look old and unattractive and often resulting in the need for early replacement. So, it is in your best interest to take care of the following aspects when storing your wig:

• Be sure to place your wig on either a wig stand, a styrofoam head or a mannequin head to keep the form of your wig, especially if the wig in question has long hair (the longer, the more necessary). Beside that, those stands are very useful when it comes to the styling of your wig.
• To avoid the tangling of the hair of your wig, it should be combed with a wide brushed wig comb and be covered with one of those hairnets that usually come with the wigs when delivered to keep them untangled. If tangles can’t be removed with a comb without pulling out hair, try to carefully untangle them with your fingers.
• Don’t place your wig near any source of heat or into dusty areas, as this might damage or even melt the hair.
• Don’t store your wig in a way where there is pressure applied to it, as this might cause alter the shape of the wig in a disadvantageous way.
• Finally, to keep dust of your wig, it may be advisable to cover it loosely, for example with a plastic bag or a scarf of the right size and store it in a dry place.

If you follow this advice, you will be able to enjoy your wig for an average time of 6 months if worn daily. After this, even if good care was taken, a new one is necessary in most cases.
