Cosplayers showing off their wigs

Dressing up as an anime or manga character is what cosplay is being tagged or associated with. Cosplay or short for “costume roleplay”, as what the term denotes, is labeled as a kind of art typically performed by anime/manga enthusiast who attempts to copy the identity of his beloved character and show it off to public along with a community of cosplayers. Cosplay is particulary popular in Asia.

A dedicated cosplayer would take a lot of his effort to give life to his chosen character through his being. He would take time and attention to every details of his character – literally from head to foot. His main purpose is to be entirely ‘into the character’, so everything from his shoes, socks, dress, make up, and way up his hair are given careful thought. Sometimes, even the way the character acts is copied. All these aspects are important because you got to have that overall look to get a great feedback. For example, even if you have the perfect costume, yet you have a sloppy hairdo, or lifeless makeup, then this will defeat the very purpose of giving your character a life.

Costume, makeup, shoes – these can easily be prepared because they are something you can just buy or create, but the hair, if you want to use your real hair and just do some tweaking so it would imitate the hair of the character, then that might be a problem, especially when you are attempting to simulate a character who has longer hair than yours. Thank heavens to the readily available hairpieces or cosplay wigs out in the market. You can try to buy one, and then just fine-tune it a bit with the help of hairspray or you could simply buy a personalized wig – it’s up to you.

Hairpiece, if chosen carefully, would undeniably create a dramatic appeal to the character you want to portray. Typically, when cosplayers huddle and show off to the public, their hairpiece is definitely one of the things, apart from costume of course, that audience or co-cosplayers would notice first.
